Residents of Jarapadar village, located within the Kainchapur panchayat and under the jurisdiction of Ganjam police, are facing allegations of socially ostracizing two families, which has led to a police inquiry.
A complaint was lodged recently, claiming that H Ramachandra Reddy and his wife, H Sabitri Reddy, were subjected to social exclusion due to an undisclosed disagreement. The villagers allegedly imposed a fine on Sabitri, who, unable to pay, sought assistance from the Ganjam police.
Sabitri also reported that her brother, S Ashanta, faced similar ostracism after being seen conversing with her.
The police have officially registered a case (300/25) and initiated an investigation into the matter.
Authorities visited the village on Saturday during a community gathering, where they reviewed documentation and captured photographs.
Inspector-in-Charge Sumitra Patra mentioned that a meeting among the villagers was planned for October 3, but it was postponed due to adverse weather conditions, including heavy rain and storms.
